10 Women Whose Music Should Be Heard More

This list features some incredibly talented composers, so take some time and enjoy their music!

I recently wrote an article featuring a list of minority composers whose music should be heard more. Based in part, on the feedback I received, I thought it would be nice to create a list of very gifted women whose music should be heard more.

First, I want to mention that some of the women who would typically be on this list will not be featured here because they were presented on the other list.

Second, I want to also mention that this list is by no means comprehensive. By narrowing the list to 10, many deserving composers are not included.

This just happens to be my list, narrowed down to 10 composers. I'm looking forward to hearing who would be on your list.

Finally, as with the previous list, this one is restricted to living composers only.

With all of that said, here's my list of composers...

  • Renée Baker

  • Jessie Montgomery

  • Regina Harris Baiocchi

  • Dolores White

  • Valerie Capers

  • Tania León

  • Courtney Bryan

  • Judith Baity

  • Rosephanye Powell

  • Lettie Alston

Coda

This wraps up my list of 10 women whose works should be heard more. The above group of composers features artists with diverse styles and unique approaches to music composition.

I'm sure you'll agree that (as with the previous list) each of these composers are truly gifted and are masters of their craft.

So, what do you think? Who else should have been included? Don't forget to let me know in the comments section below...
